This includes early dismissals. Dismissal changes will not be accepted over the phone unless it is in an emergency. All dismissal changes must be in writing to ensure student safety.
Walkers: Dismiss from the far left entrance. Parents who drive are expected to utilize the car rider line. The walker door is for students who live within walking distance and whose parents are not able to drive to pick them up. Please do not park in the staff parking lot and walk to get your child.

Early Dismissals: If you plan to pick your child up early for an appointment, please do so at least by 2:20 PM to avoid the rush that occurs at the scheduled dismissal at 2:50 PM. Anyone showing up to pick up a student will need to present their ID, if you are not the custodial parent or legal guardian there may be a delay in the release of the student until we verify that we have a note from the custodial parent/legal guardian or we can get a confirmation from the custodial parent/legal guardian that it is OK to release that student. Attendance
At Pangborn, we take attendance very seriously. If you know your child will be absent in advance, please inform your child’s teacher and bring a note to the front office. Per WCPS guidelines, regular school attendance is required by law for children ages 5 to 18. Although not required by law, it is just as important for children at age 4 to have regular attendance as well. Attending school every day and on time is critically important and has a huge impact on learning from kindergarten through high school. Even as children grow older and become more independent, families play a key role in making sure regular attendance is a priority. Some absences are unavoidable, but when a student misses too much school—excused or unexcused—they can fall behind academically. Students are much less likely to succeed when they are chronically absent and/or miss 18 or more days in a school year. For more information on the WCPS Attendance Policy, please refer to the WCPS Handbook.
Emergency Closures
All emergencies, delays and closures are designated by WCPS officials. There are several options for staying informed about school emergencies, delays or closures:
In the event of an Emergency Dismissal, we will follow our Emergency Dismissal sheets completed at the beginning of the school year.
Meals
Our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. To see what your child will need to pay for lunch, please complete a Free and Reduced Lunch Application at the link below.
Bus transportation will be provided to students from only two consistent locations in the morning and to only two consistent locations at the end of the school day. These stops must remain consistent from week to week.
If a parent or guardian desires an arrangement that varies from the policy (EEA-R), he or she must complete and submit the Transportation Location Change Request Form (see button above) to the Transportation Department for consideration. Parents and guardians will be notified of a decision regarding the request. Please allow 10 days for processing. Changes in service will not take place until schools, drivers and parents are all notified. The forms, along with the related policy and regulation, are also available at each school and the WCPS Central Office.
Children will be required to ride the bus to which they have been assigned. School administration will no longer authorize notes from a parent or guardian to have a child ride a bus other than the one to which he or she has been assigned. Changes to a child's transportation, due to residential relocation, or change of a consistent care provider, can be made only by submitting a Transportation Location Change Request Form.
